Wigan boss Leam Richardson believes it is imperative that his side reacts in the right way after they fell to a 5-1 home defeat against Burnley at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Despite Will Keane’s 42nd-minute strike, goals from Jay Rodriguez, Josh Brownhill (2), Nathan Tella and Samuel Bastien were enough to condemn Latics to their first loss of the 2022/23 Championship campaign.

Speaking to Latics TV, Richardson was naturally disappointed following the defeat but spoke about the importance of now using Tuesday’s visit of West Bromwich Albion to respond in the correct manner.

“The scoreline is tough,” he said.

“Within the reflection of the game, I don’t think we started the game particularly well. We probably weren’t ourselves for long enough in the game. I thought we finished the first half really strong, and in the main, probably shaded the first half in terms of chances created.

Bolton manager Ian Evatt rued the lack of a clinical edge at both ends of the pitch as Wanderers saw their long unbeaten away run come to an end.

The Whites hadn’t lost on the road since the end of February but saw that record ended with a 2-0 loss at Home Park.

Plymouth were under the cosh for long periods but nicked a first-half lead when Niall Ennis was allowed space to score.

And despite a flurry of openings, the Whites again couldn’t find the back of the net and were killed off late on as the Pilgirms struck on the break to make it three wins out of three at home in League One to stay in the top six.

“We have come here, completely dominated, dictated the game and been sucker-punched twice. And we have to be better,” said Evatt.

Ryan Watson’s thumping 90th minute winner secured a 1-0 win against Stevenage, and maintained Salford City’s 100% home record.

The midfielder struck on the cusp of the full time after another dominant performance, but The Ammies had to work for their three points.

Rochdale secured their first point of the season following 1-1 draw with Crawley Town at the Crown Oil Arena on Saturday.

Tyrese Sinclair’s header on the hour ensured a more than deserved draw for Dale, after the visitors had gone ahead in stoppage time at the end of the first half thanks to Jack Powells’ powerful strike.

Finally Stockport came from behind to share the points against Swindon at Edgeley Park.

In the event, it felt like a case of one point gained – with County’s late leveller from Antoni Sarcevic arriving after skipper Paddy Madden had become the third Hatter this season to be sent off.
