Several flood alerts for the region has been issued as storm Babet hits the country this morning
The falert has been issued for the Upper River Irwell in parts of Greater Manchester.
The catchment covered by the alert includes areas near the river in Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale and Bury.
An alert has also been issued for Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston
There are also warnings for the Staley and Micklehurst Brooks in Mossley and the
River Bollin with areas including Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Bollington covered in the catchment.
Flood defences have been deployed in Littleborough, along the River Roch and in Mossley
Some of the region’s transport routes are also being affected by the storm
Due to heavy rain flooding the railway services between Hazel Grove and Buxton will be cancelled or revised and flooding has also blocked the line between Crewe and Chester and between New Mills Central and Sheffield
The Met Office says the areas covered by the warning should expect ‘persistent heavy rain’ with the ‘likelihood of some flooding and disruption’.
