Avanti has announced that it will cut back trains running between London, Birmingham, Manchester and north Wales, including running only two trains an hour between the capital and Manchester on Saturdays in December.

The train operator,awarded a nine-year contract by the government only a few weeks ago

Greater Manchester Msyor Andy Burnham said that the news was a ‘kick in the teeth’ when rail operator has just won nine-year contract

The news comes from n same week that TransPennine Express said that it would be reducing off peak services between Manchester and Leeds

In a statement Avanti said it would remove “a small number” of trains from the timetable to enable it to improve reliability and “minimise unplanned, short-notice cancellations”.
