A surprise special tram carried a Stretford bride and her wedding party to her city-centre ceremony yesterday.

Kat Mulhall asked Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) about the possibility of a reserved tram carriage to take her and the wedding party from Stretford to St Peter’s Square ahead of the ceremony.

The wedding was taking place at Manchester Register Office, where wife-to-be Aimee was waiting. The Metrolink operator, KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM), decided to show their support for the couple’s Pride weekend wedding and go one better than a reserved carriage by putting on a special tram.

KAM even managed to organise the Metrolink ‘rainbow tram’ to be the wedding carriage. Both the exterior and interior of the tram has been decorated in the colours of the rainbow to celebrate Manchester Pride and brighten everyone’s journey.

Chris Jackson, Director of Service Delivery at KAM, said: “Congratulations to Kat and Aimee on their wedding day and for their future together from everyone at KAM.

“At KAM, customers are at the heart of everything we do. When asked if we could make a tram ride the bride’s wedding transport, we had to take it one step further and offer a special service as a complete surprise.

“We’re delighted that Metrolink took Kat to the ceremony on Pride Weekend and hope we made this special day just that little bit more special.”
