The BBC’s returning drama Waterloo Road had its red-carpet premiere in Stockport last night, with fans of the series being able to preview the first episode.

The major cast, including Angela Griffin, Adam Thomas, Katie Griffiths, Vincent Jerome and James Baxter, all hit the red carpet, with Scott Thomas also in attendance.

New cast members include Alicia Forde, Priyasasha Kumari, Adam Ali, Noah Valentine, Liam Scholes and Francesco Piacentini-Smith, who are playing a new generation of pupils at the school.

The screening was followed by a Q&A hosted by BBC Radio 1 presenter Natalie O’Leary, where Angela, Adam, Katie and Executive Producer Cameron Roach spoke about the show’s return.

Originally airing on the BBC from 2006 to 2015, Waterloo Road was one of the UK’s most popular and longest-running TV dramas, with an impressive alumni of characters and award-winning storylines.

This time around, Waterloo Road’s teachers and parents are going to have to learn on their feet as they try to navigate the ever changing social landscape – from teen homelessness to the cost of living, being LGBTQ+, racism, sexism, mental health and everything else facing young teens today.

Riots, scandals, fractured families and challenging kids – for Headteacher Kim Campbell (Angela Griffin) and her team, fire-fighting is a way of life. Who said education was easy?

Waterloo Road returns on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in January.
