Manchester United have begun legal moves to sack striker Cristiano Ronaldo following a series of allegations he made on a TV interview this week

Manchester United has this morning initiated appropriate steps in response to Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent media interview,” said a club statement.

It follows his interview on Talk TV where he staged a 90 minute sit-down interview with Piers Morgan in which he savaged the Old Trafford club, its manager Erik ten Hag and the Glazer family owners.

Ronaldo said that he had no respect for the United manager and claimed the Dutchman had treated him badly since his appointment at Old Trafford in the summer and had provoked him into refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham in October before leaving the stadium early.

Ronaldo also criticised the lack of progress made by the club in recent years.
