A further 6,874 people in the UK have tested positive for coronavirus in the 24 hours to Friday, the highest yet recorded bringing the total number of infections to 423,236.

Stockport and Wigan have have been placed under the same restrictions for social mixing as the rest of Greater Manchester just three weeks after they were released
Writing on Facebook, Stockport’s Cabinet member for Economy and Regeneration wrote
Some bad news, I’m afraid. Stockport will be subject to additional Covid restrictions on top of the ones announced earlier this week.
The validated figure the council has currently is 71.2 per 100k , which is still below north-west and Greater Manchester averages.
However, this is above the England average of 46.4.
Therefore, the government have decided to include Stockport in the Greater Manchester-wide restrictions currently in place.
Meanwhile Friday’s update of the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 for every local authority area in England confirmed that Bolton continues to record the highest rate in England, up from 197.5 in the seven days to 15 September.
