Police investigating the death of Julius Matera are renewing their appeal for people to come forward with information to help bring his loved ones some closure.

Julius’s body was discovered on land situated between Broughton Cricket and Rugby Club and the residential properties on Great Cheetham Street West in Salford in December 2023.

Police believe Julius lost his life on the evening of Friday 13 October or during the early hours of Saturday 14 October 2023.

A £50,000 reward has been offered for key information that can lead to solving this case and finally give Julius’ family some closure.

Detective Inspector Rachel Smith from our Major Incident Team said: “We are still committed to investigating Julius’s death and we know that someone in the community has answers about what happened at the property that evening. Even the smallest detail could be the missing piece in this investigation.

“We need anyone who may have any information that could lead us to finding the person or people responsible for Julius’s death to come forward so we can provide answers and closure for a grieving family.

“I understand that people can be reluctant to come forward, but I ask you to do so as it will help a family who is desperate for justice. We are now two years on from Julius’s tragic death and want to provide his family with some closure.

“We can now offer a £50,000 reward to anyone who can assist with giving us key information which leads to a conviction.

“No matter how small the information might seem, it could be vital to solve our investigation.”

Paying tribute to Julius, his family said: “Julius was remarkably friendly, considerate, respectful, funny, and adventurous. He was always ready to help when he could.

“He had such an adventurous spirit and a curious mind that made him want to explore and discover things in his own special way with a keen ambition in current affairs and commentary.

“Julius was an active local community member who enjoyed the company of others and was never a lonely person. We all miss his contagious laugh.

“He had a way of making people smile even in the toughest of times and is remembered for that smile and a chuckle that captured his joyful spirit.

“If there is anyone in Manchester or anywhere else who knows anything about his last hours, please contact the police and try to help them affording him justice and let his soul find peace.”
