Appeal launched after two teenagers were stabbed and assaulted in Cheetham Hill last night and remain in hospital in a serious condition.
The assault happened around 10pm on Spender Avenue when a 16-year-old and his 17-year-old friend were on the street chatting when they were approached by a group of men who had their faces covered.
These men were carrying knives, a baseball bat and bricks, which they used to assault the two teenagers.
The 16-year-old teenager was stabbed several times on his shoulders, abdomen and legs.The 17-year-old teenager was assaulted with the brick and hit several times by the baseball bat.The group then made off towards Heywood Street.
Both teenagers were taken to hospital for treatment where they remain in a serious condition.
Detective Inspector Rob Howarth of GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “This was a vicious and sustained attack on two teenagers who were simply stood on a street corner.
“Clearly this is a serious incident and our priority is to identify and arrest the people responsible, to get them off the street as soon as we can.
“To do this, we need the help and support of the local community, which is why I’m appealing directly to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help with our investigation to come forward.
“We have increased patrols in Cheetham Hill, and would encourage anyone with concerns or questions to speak to our local neighbourhood policing team. “
