Police investigating the murder of Mohammed Afzal in Bury on Friday have made two further arrests.

Three men all aged 19 were arrested on suspicion of murder over the weekend. One has since been released on bail.

Today, police have made a further two arrests of men aged 19, bringing the total arrest count to five.

Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the investigation, and Mohammed’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Officers have worked non-stop for the past few days, resulting the arrest of five people on suspicion of murder.

“While our investigation is still in its very early days, we are making good progress with our various lines of enquiry, and I want thank those who have come forward with information to assist us.

“As this work continues, we would still ask anyone with information to get in touch with us – either by calling us directly or getting in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously.”
