It is being reported in the media that two people convicted of rape in Rochdale Qari Abdul Rauf and Adil Khan, are still in Britain after they renounced their Pakistani citizenship

They are being accused of exploiting a legal loophole that means the UK can’t deport them as they are stateless while Pakistan says it has “no basis to accept them”.

The pair were were jailed for their role in the notorious abuse ring that saw at least 47 young girls, some as young as 12, sexually assaulted after being plied with alcohol and drugs.

Khan was jailed for eight years. Rauf was jailed for six years and are both still living in Rochdale.

They lost their appeals against deportation in 2022.

Pakistani authorities have reportedly said there is “no basis to accept them” due to their lack of citizenship, and that it would be “extremely difficult” to take them back.
