Two men who mowed down a woman while racing cars on the A6 have been jailed
The victim, Emily Maher had been crossing the A6 at Hazel Grove, near to the junction of London Road and Queen’s Road, when she was struck by the white Vauxhall Astra being driven by Lewis Severn at speeds not less than 55mph.
Joseph Bostock, who was driving a Seat Ibiza at speeds not less than 52mph, had been tailgating slightly behind, and he continued at the same speed past the scene of the accident.
Severn stayed on the scene, where he was arrested for causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The vehicle he was driving was registered to him.
Bostock was traced by police through the registered owner of the vehicle and was too arrested.
The young woman sustained multiple life-threatening / life-changing injuries, including multiple fractures to her neck, breaks to the humerus, shoulder, rib and pelvis as well as severe lacerations to the upper and lower leg.
She still suffers from the effects of her injuries to this day.
CCTV analysis of the scene showed both vehicles driving at speed and in tandem. It was determined that if both vehicles had been driving the legal speed limit, Miss Maher would have gotten across the road before either vehicle passed.
Joseph Bostock,22 of Pickwick Road, Poynton received two-year’s imprisonment, with Lewis Severn,23,of Broadway, Offerton receiving a 22-month custodial sentence following a hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday,
Following the completion of the sentences, both men will then be subject to a three-year driving ban and extended re-testing.
