Two men have been charged after a quantity of drugs, a firearm and explosives were found in a van in Newton Heath on Wednesday night.

David Horner,51,of Hopgarth Walk, Newton Heath has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life. 

Joseph Grey,54,of Hopgarth Walk, Newton Heath has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life and two counts of possession with the intent to supply Class B drugs. 

They will both appear at Manchester Magistrates Court today

Armed officers from GMP’s Specialist Operations Team stopped a vehicle as part of an investigation into organised crime on Oldham Road, near to the junction of Droylsden Road in Newton Heath. 

During the operation police found a firearm and explosives inside, along with a quantity of drugs. A house was also searched on Hopgarth Walk, Newton Heath as part of the investigation. 

A 51-year-old woman arrested as part of the investigation has been released under investigation.
