A woman in her 50’s has been killed and two other people have been injured after a bus hit pedestrians by a bus stop in Manchester City Centre yesterday evening

The bus crashed into a bus shelter in Piccadilly Gardens on Sunday evening around 9.30

Another woman in her 50s remains in hospital with serious injuries. A man in his 60s received treatment for minor injuries.

The bus driver remained at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries, the force spokesman said.

Police are appealing for anyone with dash or helmet-cam footage of the collision, or the area in the minutes before the crash, to get in touch.

A spokesman for bus operator Stagecoach said: “We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in a serious incident at a bus shelter at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester around 9:30pm on Sunday evening.

“Our first thoughts are for those affected by the incident and their families. Safety is our absolute priority and we are supporting the investigation into the circumstances involved in any way that we can.”

Part of Piccadilly is closed this morning and buses are being diverted.
