Police have arrested a 57-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition following a search of an address in Eccles

Officers have been present at the address on Crowngreen Road since Wednesday 8th July

Heavy machinery and equipment were used to access sections of the back garden after information led officers to believe weapons had been hidden there.

Officers have since recovered items they believe to be viable firearms including a shotgun, a handgun and live ammunition. A machete and a quantity of class b drugs were also recovered from inside the property.

These items have been made safe and removed from the address for forensic testing. Officers will remain on the scene as they continue their investigation.

Detective Sergeant Gareth Bannister from GMP’s Challenger team, said: “Firearms have absolutely no place on our streets and the recovery of these items is significant in removing potentially lethal weapons from our communities.

“This is our message to those that look to use violence, intimidation and the threat of firearms to protect their criminal activities and interests – we will pursue you and bring you to justice.
