Two men have been detained under international arrest warrants – one in Portugal and one in the Netherlands – in relation to the death of John Soyoye in Moston in November 2020.

Extradition proceedings are ongoing.

So far this year, three further suspects – all Portuguese nationals – have been detained in Portugal, extradited to the UK, charged and appeared before the UK courts and are in custody awaiting trial.

They are Ruben Candiza 25, charged with murder, manslaughter and violent disorder.

Valdo De-Almeida 26, charged with murder, manslaughter and violent disorder and  Marco Veiga 25 charged with murder, manslaughter and violent disorder.

Portugal had a nationality bar in place which was lifted in November 2025, allowing the men to be detained in the country.

In total, 13 men were identified as being suspects in the murder investigation.

Eight of those men were arrested, charged and stood trial in 2021 and were convicted in connection with the murder.
