Police investigating after a man was assaulted and his bike stolen in Leigh over the weekend have made three arrests.

The victim was cycling close to the junction of the guided busway and Holden Road, Leigh when he was approached by a group of men.One of the men was armed with a piece of wood, who hit the cyclist over the back of the head, causing him to fall from his bike.

The man was further assaulted as he lay on the floor.The pair then stole the victim’s bike, phone and wallet before leaving the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for a head injury. He has since been released from hospital.

Police have now arrested three men aged 18, 23 and 24 on suspicion of robbery.All three have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are continuing to appeal for information following the incident.
