Food and drink fans in Salford are being asked to share their secrets to spice up this year’s Salford Food and Drink Festival.

The 17 day festival, titled Discover a Taste of Salford, aims to reveal some of the hidden gems across the city, from top takeaways to amazing afternoon teas and cafes, real ale pubs and fine dining.

Local residents are being asked to recommend their favourite food and drink spots to share their delights with others.

Councillor Ann-Marie Humphreys, assistant mayor for culture, leisure and sport, said: “Salford has some fantastic places to eat and drink which deserve wide recognition. Sometimes there are hidden local gems, that people living even a few miles away may not have discovered.

“We want to hear from people about their favourite restaurants, pubs and bars, cafes, food shops and take aways and what makes them so good. Then we can share their recommendations with others.

“A number of our restaurants and cafes also have special offers running through the festival and we’d love to hear from any Salford food and drink business which could add to that menu.

“But we’re also not forgetting our local food banks which help people in desperate need. We’re launching a food bank collection at the Civic Centre which will run throughout the festival.”

And Salford’s ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Peter Dobbs, will be sharing a few secrets from his tv career – including how he once told veteran actor Lord Olivier to shut up and sit down!

Cllr Dobbs began his career as a costume designer with the BBC working on Top of The Pops, Blue Peter, Blakes Seven, Dr. Who, The Spike Milligan Show and the Dick Emery Show before switching to Granada TV and working on Coronation Street, Brideshead Revisited, Jewel in The Crown, King Lear( Lord Olivier), Ebony Tower (Lord Olivier) Lost Empires (Lord Olivier and Colin Firth) Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett) and many more.

He’s inviting residents into his parlour to enjoy afternoon tea and a few tales to raise money for three Salford charities.
