Courtesy of the Didcot Railway Centre, steam locomotive 4079 “Pendennis Castle” will visit the East Lancashire Railway for selected dates in April.
The historic steam locomotive will turn 100 in February, and ELR is proud to be part of the celebrations.
Originally built for the Great Western Railway, the locomotive is renowned for outperforming its rivals in speed and efficiency, as well as working alongside the Flying Scotsman in Australia.
Normally based in Didcot, this will be an exciting opportunity for train enthusiasts to ride behind the locomotive over the testing gradients of the East Lancashire Railway.
“Pendennis Castle” will also haul selected Dining with Distinction trains, including the Red Rose dining experience on the 13th April, Murder Mystery on the 20th April and a Premium Night on the 27th April.
The Dining with Distinction trains have always been extremely popular at East Lancashire Railway, and guests won’t want to miss the opportunity to dine while this historic steam locomotive hauls this luxurious train.
Mike Kelly, Chairman of the East Lancashire Railway, said “It’s an incredible opportunity to be able to welcome “Pendennis Castle” to ELR, especially for its 100th anniversary.
“Anyone who loves trains will want to catch a glimpse of this iconic locomotive, or even eat a luxury meal whilst being pulled behind it!
The 4079 “Pendennis Castle” will visit East Lancashire Railway on 10th-14th, 20th-21st, and 27th-28th of April 2024. Find more information on their website.
