NHS Staff in Tameside will see special road markings appreciating their heroic efforts as they go to and from work.

Tameside Council’s Highways team have painted ‘Thank You NHS’ on both Fountain Street and Mellor Road in Ashton, where Tameside Hospital staff enter the grounds.

It was created as part of work to build a temporary ward with the highways team taking the opportunity to pay their thanks to NHS workers, as well as on behalf of the borough.

The ward is a 10-bed prefabricated unit, opposite Werneth House and close to the emergency department, that’s been created as a precautionary measure to meet increasing demand during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Council’s Operations and Neighbourhoods team played their part by cutting back trees and ensuring that access is possible.

Tameside Council Executive Leader Councillor Brenda Warrington said: “Whilst carrying out work to establish an extra ward at Tameside Hospital, our Highways team wanted to let NHS staff know how much their dedicated and vital work is appreciated and what a brilliant way to do it – a huge Thank You that they will see every time they go into and leave work.

“Well done to our Highways team for creating this special tribute, which will act as a daily reminder from the whole borough so that NHS staff know that we’re thinking of them and that we’re truly grateful for everything they’re doing.”
