BBC Radio Manchester’s Anna Jameson failed to get an answer from the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak over whether the High Speed line to Manchester will be built

Sunak, doing the rounds of BBC local radio stations this morning, refused in his words to fuel speculation, instead insisting that “spades were in ground”

As a sign maybe of the policy announcement to come, Sunak deflected the question to talk about cars, saying that more people in the region were driving and that addressing pot holes was a priority

In the interview Jameson said that “We’re straight talking people in the north”

“It’s a yes or a no-Are you scrapping HS2”

Sunak – “I’m not speculating on future things”

The Prime Minister said that vast majority of journeys are made by car’

‘We’re not talking about cars, we’re talking about trains,’ Jameson snaps back
