The £920,000 scheme, funded by Manchester City Council and the Greater Manchester Growth Deal,begins on Monday 3rd Feb and is designed to reduce congestion in the area between Mitre Road and St John’s Road, while creating a segregated cycleway and relocating an existing puffin crossing, for the convenience and safety of pedestrians.
An additional lane will be created, to allow vehicles to continue along the A6 while others wait to turn right onto Kirkmanshulme Lane.
A cycle track will be provided on Stockport Road between Mitre Road and St John’s Road, which will be physically separated from other vehicles to provide a safer and more convenient route for people on bikes.
A puffin crossing will be relocated, to make it more convenient for pedestrians wishing to reach bus stops from Longsight district centre and the local Asda superstore.
Although much of the work will be completed without the need to impose traffic management, some essential lane and overnight road closures will be required during the programme, including a Sunday lane closure and three night-time closures during the first week.
On Sunday 2 February, a lane will be closed heading towards the city centre from 9:30am – 6:30pm, to allow preparatory works to take place.
Overnight closures will take place between Mitre Road and St John’s Road from 10pm -4am on Monday 3, Tuesday 4 and Wednesday 5 February, with a signed diversion along St John’s Road put in place.
The work is due to be completed by summer 2020.
