People living in Partington to benefit from a fantastic new state-of-the-art youth centre

Trafford Council handed over the centre on Moss Lane Road, Partington, to the Greater Manchester Youth Federation for use as a local youth centre.

The charity is now working with a team of builders to convert the 11,000sq ft building into an area specially designed for 10 to 18 year old’s containing a dance area, art and creative space, digital suite, homework room, a chill out zone and Duke of Edinburgh preparation room. There will also be a farmhouse-style kitchen, snooker room and biking hub for the 200 plus children to use.

The Greater Manchester Youth Federation, a registered charity, will rent the building on a minimal fee from Trafford Council but will spend £500,000 on the large-scale interior work. The work is progressing well and the centre is expected to be open in August 2022.

Trafford Council is proud to have been instrumental in helping the centre open up and has made helping young people across the borough a major priority.

Karen Wilson, Chief Executive of the Greater Manchester Youth Federation, said:

“We are honoured and very excited to have taken ownership of the youth centre on a long lease from Trafford Council. We are proud to be helping young people in this area of Trafford and we cannot wait for the centre to open – it’s going to be amazing. Young people need places like this to go and enjoy themselves. We are also planning to open this up to the community during the day.

We have employed a senior youth worker to help run the centre and will employ others to help out as well. But we are a registered charity and will need all the help we can get. Can I please say a big than you to Trafford Council’s officers and Cllr Adele New for all their help in getting this project off the ground. I know it will be a huge success.”

Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Neighbourhoods, said:

“This project is absolutely superb and I thank and salute all those who were involved in setting it up. Our communities are extremely important to us and we need to do everything we possibly can to help them.

This new centre in Partington is proof of what can happen when Trafford Council and its partners come together with a vision to help the local community. The facility will be there for many many years to come and will help generations of young people. Really well done to everybody involved, you should be very proud of yourselves.”
