Greater Manchester is proving its sports prowess once again as it hosts the England Athletics 2016 Manchester International on Wednesday 17th August.

The inaugural Manchester International meeting will see England take on Scotland, Wales, a GB Under 20 team, as well as teams representing UK Armed Forces and a British League invitation team, taking place at the Manchester Regional Athletics Arena.

The Diane Modahl Sports Foundation (DMSF) is delighted to reveal that Aimee Pratt, 18 has been officially selected to represent the GB Under 20 team in the 2000m steeple chase.

It’s the end of a very long season, and Aimee will be hoping to score well for Great Britain and potentially bring home a seasons best time over the distance. She’s trained with DMSF since 2012 – a charity set up by Diane Modahl to give young people a sense of purpose, through sport and beyond.

In addition to Aimee’s call up, the DMSF has been invited to enter a team in the junior events and have selected the 11-13 years Mixed Relay Medley. The athletes participating are Mercy Olajde, Wright Robinson School, Mojisola Oladiti, Abraham Fobil and Tommi Oladiti, all of Cedar Mount Academy, and Ben Lyons of St Peter’s RC High School is first reserve.

DMSF is also entering a team in the Girls 3 x 500m Time Trail to include: Angel Okechukwu and Laure Kidicula both of Our Lady’s RC High School, and India Allen Edwards from Chorlton High School. Mojisola Oladiti is first reserve.

CEO Diane, commented: “The day will be a brilliant but rare opportunity for us to witness world class athletics at the Regional Arena, whilst at the same time cheering on young aspiring DMSF participants who have benefitted from loyal sponsor support and guidance throughout the DMSF programme. We’re honored a number of our long-term supporters will be in the crowd on the day, including; Neil Fairlamb from Manchester City Council, Terry Angus of the Professional Football Association, the UK Fast team and former Lord Mayor, Paul Murphy.

“With Olympic fever all around us at the moment, it’s a fantastic opportunity for our young team to be involved in and inspired by world class sport on their doorstep.”

Coached by DMSF Head Coach Vicente Modahl, Aimee leads the National rankings in her age group in 2016 and this season has earned 4 International vests – competing in Loughborough, Cardiff and the World Junior Championships in Poland – smashing PB after PB.

The event is open to all to come along and watch (free for accompanied children).
