Organised in partnership with Totally Stockport, Market Place Europe, Stockport Council and Merseyway Shopping Centre, a 3-day Food & Drink Festival is coming to Stockport town centre next month, the first of what is hoped will become an annual event.

From Friday 6th to Sunday 8th September, visitors will be treated to three days of tasty treats and tempting delights from over 70 traders, from jams to jalapenos, burgers to bagels, chipolatas to chorizo – something for all the family!

On Saturday celebrity chef Simon Rimmer will be exciting the crowds on stage at the cookery theatre with his witty charm and big tastes:

“I’ll be doing two demonstrations which will feature delicious, simple dishes from my Sunday Brunch cookbook and from Greens.”

Accompanying Simon will be celebrity and local chefs and restaurant owners demonstrating their skills, sharing their top tips and inspiring tomorrow’s chefs including from Produce Hall and Hillgate Cakery.

Over 30 artisan and local producers will be the foodie stars of the show as three days of musical and family entertainment centres around the historic Market Place.

Over at Merseyway it’s a Strawberry Affair with a continental twist!

Stretching across the town centre, visitors can enjoy an international tour of over 40 stalls offering a continental platter of delicious flavours and tastes. Carmen Meander will be entertaining the crowds with her signature fruit hat as she performs musical classics including I Yi Yi Yi Yi Yi Like You Very Much and Chica Chica Boom Chick.

There’s plenty for children too: strawberry themed craft workshops will keep them busy before exploring the strawberry trail to win a fruity treat from the Strawberry Wall while the Strawberry Sounds stage brings a new vibe to Mersey Square.

With lots of hands-on entertainment all weekend, Sunday is family day starting with

Mr. Bloom and his band back in Stockport to thrill the youngsters. A Million Dreams – the Greatest Showman tribute – will be singing favourites from the show and a full line up of entertainment from local dance schools and community groups will keep everyone entertained throughout the day.

Totally Stockport’s Paul Taylor said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase all the great food & drink businesses in Stockport. Working with our partners, we have brought together a packed 3-day programme, free family entertainment and something for everyone.

“Taking centre stage on Saturday with his latest foodie recipes, Simon Rimmer will also be joined by some of our local and finest chefs. Sunday is packed full of family entertainment including a huge favourite with the children, Mr Bloom and his band, who will be on stage in Merseyway at 10.30.”
