Shoryu Ramen celebrated its 10th birthday on Wednesday 9th November, and they’re marking the milestone with a whole month of various offers and activities including a mega competition for customers at its Piccadilly Gardens restaurant.

To celebrate a decade of authentic Hakata Tonkotsu flavours, Shoryu Ramen gave away scratch cards on the big day where every customer was a winner. But it’s not too late to join in the birthday fun.

Throughout November, there are limited edition Shoryu Ramen 10th anniversary noodle bowls on offer, as part of a fantastic set menu which includes a side, a main course, a dessert and a special anniversary drink, for £27 per person.

Shoryu Ramen is also running a competition, offering customers who sign up to their newsletters in November the chance to win flight tickets with Japan Airlines. The competition launched on the 24th of October and can be entered HERE.

It’s traditional to celebrate a special occasion with a drink and Shoryu Ramen have come up with some liquid specials this month. A Yuzu Mojito comes with fresh strawberries, mint, lime, homemade yuzu syrup, Bacardi white rum and yuzu umeshu over crushed ice.

We tried a Shochu Sour. It’s made with traditional sweet potato shochu, a sweet fermented alcoholic beverage unique to Japan. Here it’s served as a long refreshing drink with a fresh sour mix, garnished with dried fruit.

Alcohol free? There’s a sweet and milky strawberry calpico made with fresh strawberries homemade syrup over crushed ice.

There’s a choice of three starters (or sides) – a char siu BBQ pork belly fluffy bun with crisp iceberg lettuce, cucumber, hirata sauce and Japanese mayo, or a vegan version with crispy fried tofu, tomato, iceberg lettuce and coriander with original spicy sauce. Or guests can choose handmade, bite sized Hakata Tetsunabe Gyoza served in a sizzling tetsunabe cast-iron skillet. These delicious pork and vegetable fried dumplings come with a tasty soy dipping sauce.

The limited-edition main courses offer a citrussy twist to Shoryu’s signature ramen bowls. Their Shoryu Tonkotsu Ramen is still made with a rich 12-hour pork broth and topped with char siu bbq pork belly, a nitamago Burford Brown egg, kikurage mushrooms, spring onion, and nori seaweed, but this month they’ve also incorporated a subtle but zingy yuzu sauce and fresh yuzu zest.

The vegan Yuzu White Natural Ramen has also had a yuzu makeover. Their unique tonyu soy milk, miso, konbu & shiitake broth comes with sliced atsuage tofu, yuzu sauce, kikurage mushrooms, menma bamboo shoots, spring onion, tender broccoli, nori seaweed and fresh yuzu zest.

As always at Shoryu Ramen, your server will ask if you like your noodles cooked hard, medium, or soft, as they’re cooked to order.

For dessert there’s a delicious soft and chewy homemade mochi filled with birthday flavour ice cream – sounds weird but close your eyes and it genuinely does. There’s also a mango mochi and a vegan miso chocolate and cookie dough ice cream mochi.

The Shoryu Ramen 10th Birthday set menu will be available until the 30th of November – get it while you can.
