The funding has been awarded through the Local Authority Housing Fund (LAHF), a capital programme that supports councils to provide affordable housing for those in housing need — particularly people experiencing homelessness.

Spread over four years, the funding will deliver a total of 45 homes, including 30 homes for temporary accommodation, ranging from two to four bedroom as well as Eight homes (two to three bedrooms) for households arriving through resettlement schemes

There are also Seven larger homes (four bedrooms or more) for resettlement families with bigger households

The homes will primarily be delivered through an acquisitions programme, enabling the council to purchase properties on the open market and make them available quickly for families in need.

Salford City Council is also exploring options with partners, including Derive, to maximise the impact of the programme and accelerate delivery.

Homes delivered through the programme will remain affordable for the long term, supporting the council’s wider ambitions to tackle housing need and reduce homelessness across the city.

The scheme aligns closely with Salford’s housing and anti-poverty priorities, helping ensure residents have access to good-quality homes and supporting stronger communities.

Salford has had success in delivering under previous rounds of the Local Authority Housing Fund, having provided an additional 40 affordable homes through the programme to date.

Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said:

“In Salford, as across the country, we are seeing increasing demand for safe, secure housing. Providing affordable homes is a key priority for us here at the council.

“Entering into the MoU for the funding is a vital boost that will help us provide safe and secure homes for families who need them most. It will also help reduce the amount we spend on temporary accommodation. By investing in these new homes, we are supporting people to rebuild their lives, while strengthening communities across the city.

“It is vital that we continue to explore all options, both nationally and locally, to provide homes for people.”
