Specialist cycling holiday provider, Freewheel Holidays, based in Walkden has teamed up with Salford’s Swifty Scooters, the innovative adult scooter company, to launch the world’s first scooter holiday at Spin – the Cycling Festival which takes place this week (6-8 May) at Victoria Warehouse in Stretford.

The 7 night self-guided tour will take place in the Austrian alps in July. There are just 12 places on this pioneering trip which costs £819 per person including bed and breakfast accommodation in specially selected charming hotels and hire of a SwiftyZERO adult kick-scooter.

The ‘Lakes and Mountains’ tour takes you through Austria’s famous lake district, the ‘Salzkammergut’. Enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and elegant spa towns including the UNESCO world heritage lakeside town of Hallstatt.

Scooters are provided, luggage is moved on to the next stop on the tour and each night there’s time to relax and share the day’s experiences over a good meal. Rest days are also incorporated to allow time to enjoy other activities such as swimming in the lakes and cable car rides.

Steven Rittey from Freewheel Holidays said: “Hooking up with Swifty Scooters seemed a natural fit. We’ve been thinking of running a scooter holiday for some time and Jason, Camilla and their team have really embraced the idea. And what better time to do it than here in Manchester at the Spin cycling festival, where we’re both exhibiting.

“The Austrian Lakes and Mountains tour is one of our best-selling cycling holidays so it’s fantastic to offer our customers this unique alternative which has never been done before. We’ll be tailoring the tour but essentially it will be the same experience as being on a bike, with flat or downhill paths and plenty of time to enjoy the stunning scenery. We can’t wait to be scooting round the Austrian lakes.”

Created by British product designer Jason Iftakhar, Swifty Scooters are designed specifically for adults, and claim their premium quality scooters to be the strongest and lightest on the market.

Commenting on the tours, co-founder of Swifty Scooters, Camilla Iftakhar said: “Scooting is a free and easy way to get about and accessible to all abilities, so using scooters on a touring holiday makes so much sense. We’ll be using the SwiftyZERO which has 16 inch wheels with pneumatic tyres, and front and rear V brakes on a lightweight fixed frame. These key features make SwiftyZERO ideal for scooting longer distances, touring and sightseeing. This tour will be all about having fun, seeing the sights and enjoying the outdoors.”
