Zack Polanski has been elected a the new leader of the Green Party

The 42 year was in Salford and attended Stockport Grammar School, The London Assembly member has pledged to take the Greens in a different direction, with his offer of “eco-populism”

He secured 20,411 votes, comfortably beating the 3,705 votes cast for the joint leadership bid of Adrian Ramsay and Dr Ellie Chowns.

He was born David Paulden but changed his first name to avoid having the same as his father, and surname to the one given up by his Jewish grandfather.

Polanski branded Nigel Farage a “charlatan” and vowed to replace Keir Starmer’s Labour as the party of the left in his first speech as Green Party leader.
