Runners, celebs and social media influencers are embarking on a 250km relay race across Manchester to raise money for charity – attempting the break the world record for the largest ever piece of GPS relay running art in the process.

Celebrities including former Hollyoaks star, Jazz Franks will be completing stages of the Michelob Marathon which is raising funds for Good Gym – a charity which combines fitness with good-deeds.

Taking place over the week of September 18th and 19th, around 50 runners from across the North West will each complete stages of either 5km or 10km – rewarding their efforts with a refreshing bottle of Michelob Ultra at the finish line. Together they’ll produce a large-scale GPS drawing as they progress between the two cities, which will be the biggest of its type ever created by runners.

The route was designed by Manchester based GPS artist, Nathan Rae, who has previously undertaken huge drawings throughout the city including animals, hearts and an iconic tribute to those that lost their lives in the Manchester Arena Bombing.

Organised by lower calorie premium beer Michelob Ultra, the relay race is celebrating runners across the North West – where an estimated 40% of residents laced up their trainers during lockdowns over the last 12 months – collectively accumulating, according to Michelob Ultra’s research, a whopping 200million road miles.

Michelob Ultra, a 3.5%, 73 calorie beer with 2g of carbs per bottle, supports a balanced and active lifestyle, with endorsements from high-profile celebrity ambassadors including Usain Bolt.

Matt Koep, product owner at Michelob Ultra UK said: “Running is more popular than ever, the ultimate release from our busy lives. Not only will this race break a record and raise money, it’ll bring together a community of runners from around the North West to champion their passion.

“At Michelob, we firmly believe it’s only worth it if you enjoy it. Sacrifice doesn’t have to come at all costs and whether it’s a 5k, 10k or half marathon, this event is designed for joggers of all abilities to complete at their own pace and enjoy a crisp and refreshing 3.5%, 73 calorie beer at the end.

“Good Gym is such an incredible cause, doing amazing work throughout Manchester and Liverpool so it’s a real privilege to bring attention to such a valuable organization and set up a fundraiser run for the cause.

“We’ll be sharing all the build-up, celebrity training schedules and the race itself on our Instagram page so be sure to follow to keep up with the action.”

Good Gym is a community of runners which combines getting fit with doing good in almost 60 local communities right around the UK – including Manchester and Liverpool. Its volunteers have undertaken over 250,000 good deeds, working overtime during the pandemic with food deliveries, medicine collections and social call-outs.
