A Rochdale man who reached speeds of 80mph in a 30mph zone, overtaking other vehicles in Whitworth before crashing has been banned from driving and given a suspended prison sentence

Zain Anwar, 18 after being spotted by police driving a Toyota Auris attempted to negotiate a corner at speed, lost control of the car and it collided with the wall of a children’s nursery on Market Street, causing a great deal of damage.

Hefled the scene but was traced with the help of CCTV footage.

Anwar, of Birkdale Road, Rochdale, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

At Burnley Crown Court, he was banned from driving for 18 months and will have to pass an extended driving test. Anwar was given a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months.
