A Grade II listed former mill building near to Rochdale has been destroyed by fire over the weekend.

Dob Hill Mill, a former woollen and cotton mill in Smallbridge, originally powered by water and which dates from the end of the eighteenth century, was virtually destroyed in a huge blaze early on Saturday morning.

The site was being used by Smallbridge Textiles Ltd and was home to a number of small shops and workshops.

The mill was one of the last example in the area of handlooms gathered into mill like workshops and its hand loom working shop dated from around 1800 was driven by a water wheel.
