A group of men armed with knives burst into a Hyde home before escaping with jewellery.

The incident happened around 9pm on Friday 24 February as six men smashed through the front door of a home on Station Close while a family were upstairs.

Some of the men were armed with large knives and threatened the occupants who included two men, a woman and a girl.They then proceeded to search upstairs and stole a gold bracelet and costume jewellery before driving off in a red VW Beetle, MK II.

The first robber was described as white, in his mid 30s, muscular build and about 5ft 8ins. He had stubble and short hair that was combed over and shaved at the sides and back.

The second offender was described as white, with pale skin and ginger eyebrows but had a black scarf covering his face up to his eyes.

The third man was wearing a full balaclava and was stocky while the fourth man was white, wearing sunglasses and spoke with an Irish accent.

The fifth and sixth robbers were described as stocky.

Detective Constable Darren Byrne, from GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “These men burst in shouting and terrified the family who were in their bedrooms at the time.Although they were not injured, they were seriously shaken up and are still coming terms with what happened that night.

“I would urge anyone who saw these men or a red Beetle in the area around that time, to please contact police.Any information could prove vital for this investigation”
