Retailer the John Lewis Partnership will increase its online focus, diversify beyond retail and seek partnerships as it aims to recover profitability.

Detailing a five-year plan to grow the employee-owned department stores and the Waitrose supermarket group, Chairman Sharon White said the plan aims to lift profit to 400 million pounds by year five and and at least half of that target within the next two years.

White said online sales could reach 70% of the retailer’s total by 2025.

The retailer said it would be investing a billion pounds in its digital business and its shops and save 300 million of costs by 2022.

It would seek to convert excess space into private rented housing and would be
developing more virtual services like personal styling.

The Company would expand the online delivery abilities of Waitrose.com and the internet sales of John Lewis and develop partnerships with companies in new business areas, such as financial services, rental and recycling.
building on partnerships such as a trial with Deliveroo.
