The region is now under an amber heat that at the moment remains in place until a11pm on Thursday
Red heat health alerts have also been issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) for the East of England, East Midlands, London, the South East, the South West and the West Midlands
The amber heat health alert also covers the North East and Yorkshire and The Humber.
Train provider Northern is warning that the weather will impact some Northern services today and is advising passengers to allow extra time for their journey and check before travel
Nationally people in the Red warning zone are being told to only travel if absolutely necessary to, from or within red warning zones for extreme heat
Over 850 schools will be closed over the next couple of days due to the heatwave
Temperatures could hit 40C on Wednesday and Thursday in some parts of England and Wales after a “heat-dome” settled over western Europe, bringing extreme conditions across the continent.
