Tameside Council are asking Residents and businesses to share their ideas for a more vibrant town centre for Droylsden.
Following the receipt of £100,000 grant funding from Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Evergreen Funding to help kick start plans for Droylsden Masterplan, the Council has launched an initial fact-finding survey to draw feedback and views from the local community and stakeholders to help shape both its short and long-term future.
The creation of the masterplan for Droylsden would be the first step. The council would then need to look to seek further funding and support for outlined plans and actions identified in the masterplan.
A consultant team led by OPEN (Optimised Environments) including national agency Social Communications, are working closely with the council, leading on shaping the vision and plan, and is keen to find out what residents of all ages, alongside stakeholders and community groups, really think of and want to see in the town.
The team will be holding a series of workshops with stakeholders alongside the survey to gain a better understanding of local views on how the town’s challenges could be addressed this includes things like empty shops, the need for a more diverse offer and improving the visitor experience.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Towns and Communities Cllr Vimal Choksi said: “It is brilliant to see the start of real conversations around Droylsden town centre. Public views will sit at the heart of the plans, engaging with our local communities and residents across the borough is a crucial first step to setting goals for the future, it’s important that everyone joins in the conversation.”
“Having plans in place will put us in a better position to seek funding sources and partners to support the vision or to bring plans forward and invigorate the local community to get involved in improving their town centre. Make sure you have your say.”
