A man has been jailed for eight years and five months following an investigation into a burglary and attempt burglary in Ancoats and Denton.

Darren Townsend aged of Carfax Street, Manchester, was sentenced after earlier pleading guilty to his offences.

His offences were reported throughout August, including 14 separate attempt burglaries in Denton and one in Ancoats – he was arrested at the end of the month.

Detective Sergeant Alexandra Smith from our Tameside Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Townsend is a prolific burglar, and this sentence is reflective of the crimes he has committed.

“The team worked hard to secure the extensive CCTV footage and statements which were crucial in identifying Townsend and securing his conviction.

“I am aware of the impact that Townsend’s crimes have had on the victims of this case and hopefully this sentence will bring them some sense of justice.

“The team are dedicated to thoroughly and robustly dealing with all burglaries and encourage the continued engagement from the public in reporting offences, so people like Townsend can be brought to justice.
