The court heard how back in August 2021 In in the early hours of the morning, the victim woke up to Malcolm, who had entered the address by kicking down a locked gate, violently punching him to the head.

The victim, a man in his 40s, had returned to an address in Radcliffe with a woman who he had been on an evening out with.

Malcolm then left the room shouting that he was going to kill the victim, before returning with a large kitchen knife.

Malcolm launched at the victim with the knife, slashing him across the head and face. The victim managed to defend himself by holding Malcolm’s arms until he dropped the knife, however, he managed to carry on with the terrifying attack by viciously biting the victim’s head.

Malcolm then fled the house with the victim being taken to A&E where his injuries required extensive stitching.

Following the incident, Malcolm attempted to evade police for six weeks before being arrested in January 2022. In custody, Malcolm gave a no comment interview and later pleaded not guilty.

Prior to his trial, Malcolm was also found to have threatened the victim and witness, attempting to pressure them into dropping the allegations, he was later charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Detective Constable Paige Hardman, of GMPs Bury CID, said: “This must have been a terrifying incident for the victim, waking up to such a violent and unexpected attack. Malcolm is clearly a dangerous individual who wanted to cause significant harm to his victim.

“Malcolm clearly had no remorse following the incident when he attempted to pressure the victim into dropping the allegations, but we are pleased that he has now faced justice”.
