A convenience store in Prestwich has been served with a three-month Closure Order following repeated incidents of suspected drug dealing and serious nuisance to the local community.
On Saturday 19 July 2025, while thousands gathered in Heaton Park for the Oasis concert, officers from Prestwich Neighbourhood Policing Team—part of Bury South Neighbourhood—were deployed as part of the wider operation supporting the event. During the evening, officers received intelligence suggesting drugs were being sold over the counter at a convenience store on Bury New Road.
Officers swiftly attended the scene and arrested two males in their 40s who attempted to flee. A large quantity of cannabis was recovered, with an estimated street value of between £2,500 – £3,000, along with counterfeit cigarettes and scratch cards.
This incident follows two previous arrests at the same premises in connection with drug offences. Although no charges have yet been brought, investigations remain ongoing.
Due to the persistent criminal activity and the impact on the local community, a 48-hour Closure Notice was initially issued under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
On Friday 25th July PC Afzal, the local area officer, successfully secured a full Closure Order from Manchester Magistrates which prohibits access to the premises until 23:59 on 24 October 2025, except for emergency services, the landlord, and lettings agents.
