A police officer in the altercation at Manchester Airport last year could still face disciplinary action after the Police Watchdog released a statement today following the conclusion of the trial
Mohammed Fahir Amaaz was found guilty
of assaulting two female police officers at Manchester Airport and has been remanded in custody, awaiting sentencing
However the jury of three women and could not reach verdicts on a charge that he and his brother Muhammad Amaad, assaulted another police officer – PC Zachary Marsden who was was captured on CCTV kicking Amaaz in the face
Both now face retrial at Liverpool Crown Court in April 2026
In a statement released today the IOPC said that said: “Our independent investigation into the use of force by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers on six people during a series of arrests at Manchester Airport on 23 July 2024 is nearing completion.” adding
“At the end of the investigation, we are required to determine whether there is an indication that anyone serving with the police may have breached the standards of professional behaviour. This will take into account all of the evidence gathered during the investigation, not simply matters that were under criminal investigation.“
