At 5pm tonight Greater Manchester Police authorised both Section 60 and 60AA orders within the designated area outlined on the map showed.

The Section 60 will be effective in the Limeside and Limegate region of Hollinwood, encompassing Hollins Road, Montgomery Street, Lower Lime Road, Coal Pit Road, White Bank Road, and Elm Road.

Operating under the powers of the 1994 Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, the Section 60 will remain in force for 24 hours, commencing at 5pm today and concluding at 5pm tomorrow

This authority enables officers with extended stop-and-search capabilities within the specified area.

The order has been enforced due to a recent surge in incidents involving young individuals carrying weapons in the local vicinity.

To reinforce community safety, specialised officers, including members of GMP’s Tactical Aid Unit, are present alongside neighbourhood police officers, providing additional reassurance to the local residents.

Inspector Tony Allt from GMP’s Oldham District said: “The decision to grant additional powers this evening reflects our commitment to addressing incidents of this nature thoroughly and to remove dangerous weapons and individuals from our community.

“Section 60 powers are crucial to preventing potential further offenses or instances of violence in the community. While these specific incidents over the last two weeks seem to involve groups familiar with each other, we understand the impact on communities and our officers are patrolling the local vicinity.
