Police recovered around 120 cannabis plants from a house in Harpurhey, after officers initially responded to reports of an attempted burglary.

Police received the call that attempted burglary was in progress at an address on Oak Bank Avenue just before midnight but quickly discovered that the property contained a number of cannabis plants, all close to full maturity.

Officers were additionally able to quickly arrest two men on suspicion of cultivating cannabis and abstracting electricity. The two men, aged 29 and 32, remain in custody for questioning.

The plants in the address were discovered in six of the rooms, spread across four floors. They were subsequently seized by officers to be destroyed.

Inspector Dan Pickavance, from GMP’s Harpurhey Neighbourhood Team, said: “Tackling drug dealers and the harm they cause in our community is a priority for our local team and we are dedicated to getting them off the streets.

“Drug use can cause a range of issues in our area: addiction, ASB, violence, and more can all arise from the sales of controlled substances. By cracking down on them where we can, we can help to reduce these problems.
