Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after a gun was fired in Sale yesterday morning after they were called to reports of a disturbance on Eastway.

Witnesses reported seeing a man aiming and firing a handgun at a black M Sport BMW, before the car fled.

Firearms officers were immediately deployed to the scene and, following a short foot pursuit, a 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody for questioning.

At the scene, officers found evidence of a firearms discharge and recovered a handgun.
Luckily no one was injured and enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parker from GMP’s Trafford borough said: “Thankfully no one was hurt, but the consequences could easily have been much worse.

“Thanks to the quick-thinking and swift actions of our officers, we arrested a man at the scene and a dangerous weapon has been recovered and taken off our streets.

“Our investigation is very much ongoing and detectives would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.”
