Police investigating a shooting in Heywood are treating it as an isolated incident.

A man was shot in the leg on Pleasant Street around 7.00pm and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

Detectives and forensic officers have been at the scene carrying out extensive enquiries and officers will remain in the area.

Detective Inspector Karl Ward, from GMP’s Rochdale borough, said: “Our investigation remains in the early stages but I can confirm we are treating this as an isolated attack and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the community.

“We understand residents will be concerned and we have extra officers patrolling the area so please feel free to approach them and they will try and help in any way they can.

“In the meantime, we will continue to speak to people in the area as part of our investigation and follow enquiries.”
