Plans that will cover shared spaces in the town centre and Victoria Park, which could benefit from significant improvements including improved pedestrian and cycling routes, and cycle parking are being revealed to the public for consultation in Denton.

The plans will use the ring-fenced £16.7m in Levelling Up Funding granted to help transform the town based on the original round two bid submission to Government in July 2022.

The project team which consists of consultants Planit and Placed alongside the Council’s Strategic Growth team are continuing their fact-finding mission and talking to local businesses, stakeholders, and residents from Denton and across Tameside to find out how everyone would like to see roads and pedestrian spaces improved. Just under £3 million is also being utilised to improve the Festival Hall with costs for repairs also included for Denton Town Hall.

In order to gain people’s views, stakeholders are being invited to sessions held during the week commencing 21 September. With a public drop-in session at the Create Centre in Denton (M34 2XW) on Wednesday 24 September from 12.30pm until 7pm where everyone can pop in and have a look at the draft proposals. There is also an online survey which can be completed by residents who would like to comment but are unable to make the drop-in session.

Councillor Stephen Homer, Tameside Council Executive Member for towns transport and connectivity said:” The Public Realm Masterplan and strategies will support the goals for Denton town centre over the next 10 years, enabling the Council to attract investment and deliver a sustainable future.”

“We need the voices of both residents and businesses to shape this vision. Denton, like many town centres, needs investment and action to meet the needs of current and future communities. Public input is vital, and this strategy must reflect what people want, so that Denton can be a place everyone is proud to call home.”
