The singer and dancer in the Piccadilly Rats Ray Boddington is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a tram in the City Centre yesterday evening.
The seventy eight year old was hit by the tram travelling from Market Street in the direction of Victoria train station at the junction of High Street and Church Street.
The collision left him with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The tram driver provided negative samples for alcohol and drugs and no arrests have been made.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and speak to police.
Police Constable Andrew Page of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We’re working to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision which has left a man with serious injuries.
“If you were in the area yesterday evening and you witnessed the collision then please get in touch with us, as your information could be vital in allowing us to piece together what happened.
“We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone with video or dashcam footage.”
