Anyone  who is a close contact of a positive case of Covid will no longer have to self-isolate after the 16th of August if they have been fully vaccinated, the Health Secretary has confirmed.

Making his second statement to the House of Commons in two days, Sajid Javid told MP’s that two doses of the vaccine can reduce symptomatic infection by almost 80 per cent, creating a protective wall that “allows us “to look afresh at many of the measures we have had to put in place”.

He confirmed that people would have to wait two weeks after their second jabbefore they would qualify to be exempt

“With around two-thirds of adults having had both jabs, a new “risk-based approach” will be taken

Pressured by the opposition over yesterday’s announcement on the ending of the legal requirement over mask wearing, Javid said that there is a role for masks” in a pandemic, but “when you have the best vaccine programme in the world you need to start moving away from those restrictions”.
