Oldham Coliseum Theatre is proud to support Riptide’s Project Intimacy this December.

The way we engage with the world and connect with others has changed overnight. When was the last time you had a meaningful conversation with a stranger?

The project  combines the art of storytelling with the science of making connections, pairing audiences from across the world together to form new relationships in a two-week-long unique digital experience.

The experience is created by Leeds-based immersive theatre company, Riptide. Supported by a northern powerhouse of Oldham Coliseum Theatre, Leeds Playhouse, Cast in Doncaster, Harrogate Theatre and Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield, they will be hosting the experience for audiences from all across the world.

Before the experience begins audience members will complete a questionnaire and based on their answers they will be paired with someone for their two-week experience. Once paired both participants will receive daily instructions and through SMS text messaging they will form a remote pairing and maybe a friendship.

Riptide have curated a carefully structured fortnight experience which is based on scientific evidence on how we make friends. Riptide hope this project will encourage people to look beyond their own four walls and to find a meaningful connection with a stranger from across the world.

Riptide’s Artistic Director Alex Palmer saidIn a year of isolation, lockdowns and social distancing – this project has been something which has brought people closer together. We have connected people from as far north as Aberdeen, Scotland and as south as South Africa and have reached audiences in San Francisco, Melbourne, Oslo and Delhi

Project Intimacy runs from Sunday 6 – Sunday 20 December. Tickets are £15 and booking closes on Friday 4 December.
