Merseyside police have given more information on the shooting last night that saw nine year old Olivia Pratt-Korbel shot dead in the Knotty Ash area of Liverpool

She was killed after a 35-year-old man with no connection to her ran into their home on Kingsheath Avenue just after 10.00pm

He was being chased by a man who was dressed in black and armed with a handgun

Olivia was fatally shot and her mother Cheryl was shot in the wrist as the gunman tried to force his way through their door

The 35-year-old man was shot several times in the upper body and then driven away in a black Audi by friends, while Olivia and Cheryl were left behind

Police say the gunman was approximately 5ft 7 tall, of slim build, carrying a handgun and wearing a black padded jacket, a black balaclava and black gloves

Detective Chief Superintendent Mark Kameen has appealed for any information about a black Audi that was used to take a man to hospital.

Urging anyone with information to come forward, the head of investigations said he was interested in speaking to anyone who saw this vehicle last night.

The car took the injured 35-year-old man to hospital last night and has since been seized

Police have made a direct appeal to the gunman to hand himself in and also want the second man who was with the injured 35-year-old man to hand himself in.

Earlier Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: “This is a truly shocking incident in which tragically a young and innocent girl has been shot and sadly died.

“Our thoughts and condolences go to her family and friends at this very difficult time. No parent should ever have to suffer the loss of a child in these dreadful circumstances.

“This crime is abhorrent and our communities must come forward and tell us who is responsible.

“This cowardly individual does not deserve to be walking the streets and I would urge those who know anything to speak to us and tell us what they know so that we can put the person responsible behind bars where they belong.

“We are carrying out a number of lines of enquiry as a matter of urgency and would ask for dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage from anyone who lives, works or was visiting the area of Kingsheath Avenue last night.”
