Mum of one originally from Sale, Nina Warhurst has been appointed Political Editor, BBC North West.

Currently a freelance journalist, Nina has more than 11 years of experience reporting, producing and presenting and had previously worked at the BBC for more than 7 years on BBC News, and BBC Sport.

Nina covered the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and also worked for Olympic Broadcasting Services. She started her career in Moscow at RT and then spent three years back in Manchester as presenter/reporter for Channel M TV owned by the Guardian News & Media. She relocated to London in 2015 where she worked for broadcasters including ITN and Channel 5 News.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted to be coming home for such a prestigious and challenging role, at such an interesting time. I am looking forward to getting stuck in to asking politicians the questions that our audience might be asking, and hopefully making ‘politics’ more accessible for everyone in our fantastic region.”  

Editor of North West Tonight, Michelle Mayman said: “It’s great to have Nina back on the team. She is highly experienced with a long and varied career in broadcasting and we are really looking forward to working with her again.” 

Nina replaces Arif Ansari who has left to study for an MA in International War studies in London.
